Extension to the Public Library of Stockholm, Sweden

We mainly explore one concept: Impact.
The proposal consists of 4 bodies: Asplund Library (which adapts itself to the new reality); Thematic Areas (a body that “dialogues” with the slope of the hill); Platform (works as a “support” for the two previous bodies); Element of finishing touch between the hill and the platform.
The tunnel (an apparently ironic and inappropriate element for the connection between the two volumes, one of great reference and the other one that awaits), is the element of reflection and of design thinking; From one of its sides a wide stair initiates the passage, on the other side a height of 33m contrasts with any kind of claustrophobia that could happen; along this course there are subtle zenithal light elements on the exterior floor that enhance the connection path.
The top floor has a terrace where we can for example read a book, or simply wonder Stockholm. Also on the top floor we have the restaurant, where the exceptional views are ideal for its placement.
Through the use of two materials, one with full transparency (glass) at a lower level and other 50% opaque (polycarbonate) on the other levels, we seek ways to understand the depth.
We propose an interior with optimal environmental conditions, a constant and harmonious light is given by the choice of a “double skin”. The façade has also elements that give the impression of being fortuitous, however we are interested in this randomness, in a way that there are always distinct places within a continuous (interior) “cloth” (a contribution to stimulate the sensations).
